Kris Smock is a graduate student in sociology at Northwestern
University. Prior to entering graduate school she worked for several years
as a community organizer for a women's community development corporation
in Portland, Oregon. As an organizer she helped to facilitate the
planning and implementation of a small-scale comprehensive community initiative
in a low income neighborhood.
