Positions (2) in City and Regional Planning

The City and Regional Planning Program invites applicants for two
positions at the assistant or associate professor level beginning August
15, 2012.
We are seeking candidates with a demonstrated interest and/or track
record in: Position 1) transportation planning, and Position 2) planning
economics/economic development. A Ph.D. in planning is preferred,
although a PhD in a related field with a prior degree in Planning or
related experience or publications will be considered. Candidates should
demonstrate the potential to contribute to and advance the profession
through peer-reviewed research. Successful candidates will offer a
strong research agenda; have a demonstrated capacity for
civic/professional engagement (AICP desired) and for generating external
funding; and a record or promise of excellence in teaching and mentoring
students. In addition to courses on aspects of transportation planning
or planning economics/economic development, preferred candidates will be
able to teach in at least one core area of the MCRP program, including
such courses as human settlement, land use analysis and assessment,
planning theory, site planning and infrastructure, urban and regional
analysis, planning studio, or GIS/spatial analysis. Candidates should
also demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with one of the School’s
other graduate programs (Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation,
or Real Estate Development) and play a role in the College-wide Ph.D.
program in Planning, Design and the Built Environment. The successful
candidates are expected to be involved in service duties typical of an
academic environment.
Housed in the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities the Planning
Program offers a PAB accredited MCRP degree program. The MCRP program
was established in 1968 and enrolls approximately 40 students. The
Planning Program has strong links to the South Carolina chapter of the
American Planning Association and practitioners in the state and region.
The School also includes graduate programs in Landscape Architecture,
Real Estate Development and Historic Preservation. Aligning with Clemson
University’s mission the Planning Program encourages interdisciplinary
collaboration, critical inquiry and global initiatives.
