I am helping to organise a proposal for an overseas study tour for an
indigenous leader from a remote community in north western Australia and
am looking for suggestions for relevant groups / communities for him to
visit.
The indigenous leader is the director of a community foundation that has
been set up with the aim of tackling issues within his community in the
areas of health, education, unemployment and housing. His foundation has
been reasonably successful however he is finding it difficult to tackle
entrenched problems. He is interested in sharing his experience and
ideas and building relationships with like-minded groups.
He would very much like to visit disadvantaged communities who are
self-organising to tackle these problems, particularly those with
projects in the areas of employment and housing, and which have had some
success.
Do you have any suggestions or contacts that might be appropriate? He
would be particularly interested in projects in the US or Canada, but
would also consider others. They do not have to be indigenous
communities, nor do they have to be engaged in community informatics
projects.
Regards,
Tom
