Gather the People (http://www.gatherthepeople.org) has recently added 
its guide to team development, “Team-Building and Participation: Guide 
to Tips on Principles and Practices,” to its organizing resources web

Our view, given our community and congregational organizing and 
development experience, is that often what’s most important in the 
success of professionals working in small groups is their team-building 
commitment and team-participation.

We’ve seen many times where the combined knowledge and skill of an 
effective team dramatically outstrips the knowledge and skill of its 
most gifted members. Moreover, a team’s aggregating of its individual 
members’ knowledge and skill ensures that those with the fewest gifts in 
particular areas will get the benefits of associating with those with 
the greatest gifts.
