Middle East Baltimore Stories:
Images and Words from a Displaced Community
Book Release Event, May 30th, 2009 from 2–6 pm at
The Reginald F. Lewis Museum
Middle East Baltimore Stories, with photographs and interviews by
Elizabeth Barbush, conveys the experiences of those most affected by an
ongoing redevelopment project in the Middle East neighborhood. Join us
as we celebrate the release of the book, and the resilience of those
whose stories it tells.
2–4PM: Meet Your Neighbors; Hear the Stories. The audio portion of
Middle East Baltimore Stories will be available for listening.
4–6PM: Mindy Thompson Fullilove, MD, professor of clinical psychiatry
and public health at Columbia University and author of Root Shock, will
speak along with representatives of SMEAC, Art on Purpose, and the
Middle East Baltimore Community.
Free and open to the public, the event takes place in conjunction with
the Reginald F. Lewis Museum exhibition, East Side Stories, which
features audio and photographs from Middle East Baltimore Stories. The
museum is located at 830 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD 21202. For
directions, 410-243-4750 or visit www. artonpurpose.org.
Copies of Middle East Baltimore Stories will be available for sale at
the event, which also includes free food and refreshments.
Middle East Baltimore Stories is made possible by a grant from the Annie
E. Casey Foundation. The book release event is made possible in part by
support from PNC Bank, and the generosity of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum.
