Discussion list for COMM-ORG colist at comm-org.wisc.edu
Fri May 22 13:05:14 CDT 2009

From: Brian Kettenring <bkettenring at acorn.org>

Friends,
**
The Center for American Progress Action Fund has graciously agreed
to host, and nine organizations have come together to co-sponsor a
briefing and discussion for allies next *_Thursday (5/28 at 10:00
am)_* about the conservative attacks on both ACORN and voter
registration in communities of color. At this moment, we think it
critical that progressives take a hard look at the emerging contours of
the right's strategy, and hear from leading practitioners in the field.
I also look forward to introducing you to Bertha Lewis, ACORN's new
Chief Organizer and CEO. I hope to see you next Thursday. Enjoy your
long weekend!

Yours, Brian Kettenring

*Reframing the Attack on Voter Registration:
A Briefing and Discussion*

*Thursday, May 28 10:00-11:30 AM*
1333 H St. NW, 10th Floor
Washington, DC 20005

Sponsors: ACORN, Advancement Project, Alliance for Justice, Center for
American Progress Action Fund, Center for Community Change, Common
Cause, Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, People for the American
Way, and Project Vote

The conservative campaign against ACORN and its voter registration
campaign continues unabated. These attacks should be understood in
historical context, but also as a pretext for an affirmative strategy to
demobilize voters of color. Thursday’s presentation and discussion will
feature a range of speakers laying out the facts, answering questions,
and discussing how to advance both a concrete message and a transcendent
policy approach.

Seating is limited.
