Save the American Dream Field Organizer
Job Description

~Description

The Save the American Dream Campaign Field Organizer serves as the 
primary field staff on NTIC’s national campaign to prevent foreclosures, 
fight predatory lending, and expand the Community Reinvestment Act. The 
job of the field organizer is to spur organizing on the issues in the 
campaign in locals across the country.

The Save the American Dream Campaign Field Organizer reports directly to 
the Campaign Director.


~Campaign Goal

Build a multi-pronged national campaign that pushes solutions to keep 
people in their homes, prevents predatory lending in the future, and 
paves the way for expansion of the Community Reinvestment Act and other 
financial system regulatory reforms that will benefit minority and 
low-and-moderate income communities in the long term.


~Campaign Objectives

Expand the base of organizations organizing on the issues of 
foreclosures, predatory lending, and CRA.

Build a cutting edge communications infrastructure for the campaign that 
works in real-time. This will include blogging, video, podcasting, 
slideshows, and email blasts.

Develop and deepen relationships with policy-makers and their staff in 
Washington, DC.

Frame the campaign and messages in the way that help create a terrain 
where expansion of CRA is possible.

Forge strong relationships with a number of national partner 
organizations that will be key for us to accomplish our goals.

Develop a clear road-map to success on each of the many proposals that 
are central to the Save the American Dream Campaign.

Develop and implement plan to restructure lending partnerships in a way 
that best helps us meet the goals of the campaign and the organization.


~Responsibilities

Develop and implement a plan to engage local organizations in organizing 
efforts around foreclosure prevention, abandoned properties, predatory 
lending, and community reinvestment. This will include the creation of 
new models for local organizing in these arenas.

In concert with the Campaign Director, develop an expanded national 
leadership team that will be at the center of campaign decisions and 
strategy. This team would be anchored by the current core, but will 
create space for a new set of leaders to strengthen this effort.

Develop and market new models for local organizing on issues of 
foreclosures, abandoned buildings, predatory lending, and community 
reinvestment.

Conduct on-site training and over the phone consultation.

Bring new organizing groups into the NTIC Network through affiliation.

Work in concert with the Campaign Director and Communications Director 
to develop a media and communications strategy that drives the campaign.

At the discretion of the Campaign Director and Communications Director, 
help build the new media infrastructure that will support the campaign.

At the discretion of the Campaign Director, coordinate national 
partnerships we have built with lenders and servicers to keep families 
in their homes and to clean up lending practices.

In concert with the Campaign Director, organize workshops, plenaries, 
and actions related to the Save the American Dream Campaign at NTIC’s 
annual Organizers Conference, Leadership Meeting, Leadership Summit, and 
other national events.

Gain in-depth understanding of policy and be able to simplify this 
knowledge in ways people can understand and use.

Contribute regularly to the organization’s websites and bi-monthly to 
major publications including, NTIC Reports and Disclosure.

Participate as a member of the NTIC Organizing Team.

In concert with the Campaign Director and Development Director, conduct 
some grant writing and fundraising.


~Qualifications

• At least 2 years experience in community organizing; experience with 
grassroots groups and organizing strategies; demonstrated ability to 
work with grassroots community leaders.

• A strong commitment to racial and social justice

• Experience organizing large public events

• Excellent written and oral communication

• Ability to work with different cultures

• Ability to speak Spanish a plus

• Willingness to travel and work flexible hours
