social
justice organizations that combine policy advocacy, policy
research, and
capacity building activities in local communities was the question. It
would help a lot -- and be interesting to us all -- to have more
details
of what the good folks in Kansas seek to do, because there are a
lot of
models out there.

Most statewide economic and social justice organizations I know of
do
all of these things to some degree, but each with their own balance
and
priorities. Some publish research of academic quality, others learn
enough to support their campaigns. Some do advocacy that is
strictly
advocacy, while others organize and mobilize. Some do local
capacity
building that is serious, accountable and sustained while others do
it
on the run as folks work on issues -- etc. And of course some are
multi-issue and some are single-issue. This list is a great place for
this question if we can get some more info on what is being
attempted in
Kansas.
