Position Announcement: June 24, 2009

Position Title: Extension Associate – Community Development HeLP

Position Location: Columbia, Missouri

Salary: commensurate with experience

The duration of initial appointment is through 8/31/2010.
This is an annual appointment contingent upon available funding.

Summary of HeLP Initiative: Given the increasing rate of overweight,
obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and related disease states in Missouri,
MU Extension has dedicated targeted resources to develop, deliver and
research a holistic and systemic approach to community-based
nutrition, health, and physical activity programs for the citizens of
Missouri. The initiative has directed MU Extension’s resources to four
regional pilot sites in Missouri that are serving as demonstration
sites for multi-disciplinary interventions over the next three years.
Currently, the initiative is expanding to work with additional
communities.

This position will work closely with regional directors, regional
faculty, HeLP directors, program directors, and campus faculty to
ensure success of the projects.

Basic Function and Responsibility: To participate in the planning,
management and support of the MU Extension Healthy Lifestyle Promotion
(HeLP) Initiative, under the guidance and supervision of the Extension
Program Directors and the HeLP Co-Directors.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in community development or
related area with appropriate coursework exhibited. Related areas
include adult education, urban or rural planning, urban or rural
development, economic or regional development, organizational
development, public administration, public health, public policy,
political science, applied or cultural anthropology, community
psychology, rural sociology, sociology, social work. Successful
candidates should have courses in community economics, community
development, organizational development, group process and
facilitation, leadership development, and planning. MS and experience
preferred.

Ability to travel and to work flexible hours including evenings and
weekends is required to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
