Dear Friends,

In 1995, when I was on the founding board of the Virginia Organizing
Project, we could only dream that one day community organizing would
become a successful part of any statewide campaign here in Virginia, not
to mention a presidential election campaign. At the time, we were
fighting a private prison here in southwest Virginia, and hopeful that
others around the state would join in our cause. We stopped that private
prison and I have been fortunate to witness firsthand VOP’s incredible
growth as a statewide group.

Well, it’s 2009, and we have learned a lot more about the power, and
success, of grassroots organizing. Today, National Public Radio is
beginning a multi-part analysis of the impact of grassroots organizing
on the Obama Administration, and telling the story of our own VOP.

Check it out! http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=99048688

Best,

Andy Kegley

P.S. The 2009 Virginia General Assembly starts this week, and VOP will
also be involved in pushing for policy reforms in Washington, D.C. this
year. There will be action alerts to contact our policy makers and we
hope we can count on you to help!

I also hope you will take this opportunity to help VOP financially, by
contributing at http://www.virginia-organizing.org/donation.php.

VOP is moving forward!
