Deputy Director

Jubilee USA Network seeks a full-time Deputy Director for its Washington, DC
national office. The post is a senior level position in a dynamic and
fast-paced work environment. The successful candidate will lead the
Network's advocacy and government relations efforts, supervise program staff
and fellows, liaise with coalition members and partners, and work with the
Executive Director to raise the organization's annual budget.  The
successful candidate will have significant supervisory experience,
demonstrated experience in developing effective organizing and advocacy
strategies, familiarity with international debt and development issues, and
a commitment to justice for the world's poor.

Jubilee USA Network is an alliance of more than 75 organizations working to
build the political will for cancellation of unfair and unjust international
debts and for more responsible lending by international financial
institutions to fight poverty in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.  

Responsibilities:
.    Supervise Jubilee's outreach and advocacy team, currently consisting
of the National Field Organizer, the Outreach and Congregations Fellow, and
the Policy fellow.
.    Serve as the primary staff public policy advocate, engaging in
regular direct advocacy with Congress and the Executive Branch in support of
Jubilee's advocacy agenda.  
.    Convene and staff the Network's policy working group, which brings
together member organizations to develop policy positions and to coordinate
the organization's advocacy strategies.
.    Stay abreast of new developments on issues of international debt and
development finance. Serve as an information resource on debt and related
policy issues for supporters and policymakers.
.    Write and edit education and advocacy materials for Members of
Congress, other decision makers, supporters, member organizations, and
allies.  
.    Oversee the development and implementation of Jubilee's organizing
and advocacy work plan.
.    Maintain and deepen relationships with Jubilee member organizations
and key organizational allies and partners.
.    Represent Jubilee USA Network in meetings with policymakers and
officials, at conferences, and in coalitions, including through regular
public speaking engagements.  
.    Work with the Executive Director to help to raise the organization's
annual budget.

Qualifications:
.    Successful experience as an executive or deputy director, director
of advocacy/government relations, policy director, or outreach director of a
nonprofit organization, faith-based organization, or government
agency/Congressional office.
.    5-7 years full-time work experience in increasingly responsible
positions in one or more of the above areas.  
.    Demonstrated experience with government relations and direct
lobbying; knowledge of US Congress.
.    Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with issues of international
debt, development finance, IMF/World Bank policies, and/or international
economic policy.  
.    Demonstrated experience in utilizing grassroots mobilization and
organizing strategies to achieve policy change.
.    Demonstrated experience representing an organization in meetings
with policymakers,  and in coalitions.
.    Demonstrated experience working in coalitions of diverse
organizations; experience in working with faith communities particularly
helpful.  
.    Some experience with fundraising from organizations, churches,
and/or individuals preferred.
.    Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
.    Strong commitment to economic and social justice.
.    Understanding of and commitment to the principles, concerns and
considerations of the Jubilee Network with regard to issues of race, class,
nationality, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, and disabilities.
.    Fluency in English and Spanish, French, or another language commonly
used in the Global South would be an added benefit.

Compensation:
Salary $50,000-$55,000 DOE.  Comprehensive medical and hospitalization plan;
term life, plus fringe benefits; participation in unemployment and worker's
compensation and social security.  Benefits include three weeks paid
vacation, plus Jubilee USA is closed during the week between Christmas and
New Year's Day.
