Dear Friend of the Funders' Collaborative on Youth Organizing:
We hope that this e-mail finds you well. FCYO is currently looking to
fill its Program Officer position. Please feel free to forward this
posting along.
Position Summary
The Program Officer (PO), working closely with the Executive Director
(ED) and the Program Committee of the Advisory Board, will share program
and administrative responsibilities for FCYO with the Executive
Director. The PO's primary responsibility will be to support and
maintain learning relationships with our grantee partners, other
practitioners, and with our Board in order to support FCYO's overall
strategy development. This position will require some travel.
Areas of Responsibility
Research and Publications
· Work with the ED on creating original research to inform
theoretical frameworks and grantmaking initiatives for the Youth
Organizing field, capitalizing on trends and opportunities to support
broaden and deepen the potential of youth organizing.
· Design and oversee research workplan and oversee the writing
and dissemination of the Occasional Paper Series, including identifying
issue areas; managing consultants; creating and managing a review
committee for projects, including the board Program Committee and
strategic partners; and hosting briefings with funders and practitioners.
Grantmaking
· Staff the current grantmaking cohort with the PA.
· Work with the ED to explore options for a new strategic
grantmaking program.
· Provide and organize technical assistance for grantmaking cohort.
· Work with the PA, practitioners, and strategic partners to
develop and implement national and regional convenings.
Fundraising
· Support the ED in developing and implementing a fundraising
strategy, including developing a national and regional funder scan.
· Support the ED in proposal processes, including writing and
coordination with funders.
Other Duties
· Represent FCYO at conferences, briefings, and with funders.
· Assist ED with administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications:
* Five years experience in social justice work with significant
understanding of the youth organizing landscape nationally, including
experience with youth organizing groups.
* Strong analytical and writing skills, including synthesizing
information into clear, concise, and compelling reports and briefing
papers. Qualitative and some quantitative research skills desired.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate
effectively and professionally with a diverse range of people.
Management experience desired.
* Strong oral skills; comfortable presenting information at board
meetings and representing FCYO in the broader community.
* Outstanding creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
* Able to work independently and manage time effectively.
* Able to identify and access relevant research, policy information,
and individuals that will advance the work of FCYO.
* Previous grantmaking or nonprofit experience desirable.
