[ed: Judy offers new updated information on Midwest Academy internships.]
From: Midwestacademy5 at aol.com
The Midwest Academy is pleased to announce a new for-credit version of our
summer community organizing internship. Both the paid internship and the
credit internship (which will not be paid) will run from Monday, June 2
- Friday,
August 8, and will include intensive training, work as an organizer on an
issue campaign, mentoring and job search assistance for those who are
interested.
For-Credit Internships: Undergrads will receive 6 credits for a cost of
$600
through the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs; MA level students
will
receive 6 credits for a cost of $900. Students doing the internship for
credit will not be paid a stipend. All applications are through the
Midwest
Academy, not through the university.
Paid Internships: Interns will receive a stipend of $3500 for the ten
week
period, to be paid biweekly. Freshmen are encouraged to apply for the
for-credit internship, since we rarely hire freshmen in the paid
internship
program. Students who are paid may not also apply for credit in 2008.
Applications are currently being taken for both programs, and
acceptance is
on a rolling basis. Here is the link for a full description and
application

The Midwest Academy was just featured on Chicago Public Television in
honor
of our 35th anniversary; here is a link to the six minute video which
