JOB ANNOUNCEMENT - Health Care Campaign Coordinator

Who we are: PICO National Network brings people of faith together to
revitalize communities and create opportunity for working families. With
53 local and regional affiliates representing one million families in
150 cities and 17 states, PICO is one of the largest and most diverse
community organizing networks in the United States. PICO teaches
ordinary people how to build powerful organizations and change policies
that affect their families and communities. PICO’s Cover all Children
Campaign has helped to bring the voices and influence of families and
faith communities into the movement to cover 9 million uninsured
children. PICO affiliates are involved in state campaigns to win health
coverage for children and adults.

Job description: PICO is looking to hire a campaign coordinator to
support state and national organizing campaigns to win health coverage
for all children and families. The campaign coordinator will work with
PICO affiliates that have a strong track record of organizing for change
at the local and regional level. This support will help these
organizations to influence state policy through legislation,
administrative change and ballot initiatives and ultimately reshape
national health care policy to cover all people.

The campaign coordinator will provide PICO staff and community leaders
with technical assistance in the areas of political strategy, policy
development, communications and research to support successful policy
campaigns and will act as an advisor and coach to organizations. The
coordinator will also help staff and volunteer leaders share information
and strategy with one another through meetings and conference calls.

Specific responsibilities include speaking and meeting regularly with
staff in PICO affiliates to share information and provide advice;
developing and sharing messaging for state campaigns; producing policy
updates and reports; organizing conference calls and planning meetings;
connecting PICO staff and leaders to policy experts; and tracking
activities and milestones in this project. The position will also help
PICO federations and state networks make health care coverage an
important issue in the 2008 elections and a top priority for the next
Administration and Congress in 2009.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate has successful experience working on
campaigns to change state and/or national policy and knowledge of health
care policy issues. Candidates should have strong communications and
writing skills. A commitment to social justice, community organizing as
a social change approach and the importance of people acting on their
own behalf is essential.

Details: The campaign coordinator will report to the Director of Public
Policy.

Location: Washington, DC.

Salary and Benefits: Salary based on experience; Health and dental
coverage; paid vacation.
