*Job Title:*                      *Executive Director*

 

UNIDOS Against Domestic Violence is a statewide network of 
bilingual/bilcultural women and men interested in working together to 
put an end to family violence in the Latino, migrant and immigrant 
communities.  The Executive Director functions as the Chief Executive 
Officer of the organization under the guidance and supervision of the 
Board of Directors and its Executive Committee. The incumbent is 
responsible for implementation of Board policies, procedures, strategic 
plan, and annual goals and objectives.  The Executive Director is 
responsible for fundraising and implementing sound financial management 
practices.  The incumbent is responsible for direct supervision of 
agency staff and responsible for all administrative management of the 
organization.

 

*_Overall Duties and Responsibilities:_*

   1. Responsible for administration of overall operation of UNIDOS
      including, but not limited to: reviewing and evaluating the
      results of program activities, ensuring that continuing
      contractual obligations are being fulfilled; allocating resources
      for greater program effectiveness and efficiency; developing
      organizational and administrative policies and program objectives
      for Board consideration.

 

   2. Responsible for overall leadership of staff in the development and
      implementation of short and long range plans, policies, and other
      activities in furtherance of the organization's mission. 

 

   3. Functions as a primary contact on behalf of the Board of
      Directors, staff and community.

 

   4. Responsible for the financial management of the corporation,
      including the development and implementation of sound financial
      practices and development of an annual budget.

 

   5. Responsible for coordinating all fundraising activities, and
      search for and submission of grants to appropriate governmental
      and non-governmental funding sources.

 

   6. Responsible for the development, implementation and accomplishment
      of the annual work plan approved by the Boards of Directors.

 

   7. Protects the corporation's legal interest and maintains its
      operations within the law; retains and works with outside counsel
      to obtain legal opinions or handle claims and litigation.

 

   8. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other
      organizations including, but not limited to, Wisconsin Coalition
      Against Domestic Violence, Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual
      Assault and other local, state and national domestic violence
      victim advocate organizations.

 

   9. Develops and maintains effective methods of communication with
      UNIDOS' Board, organizational membership, Latino migrant and
      immigrant communities and advocacy organizations.  Develops and
      maintains a positive organizational image through effective
      utilization of newsletters, informational seminars, conferences,
      marketing activities, outreach and public forums.

 

  10. Recommends policy and procedure changes, program development, and
      strategic direction to the Board of Directors, Board Committees,
      and staff.  Implements approved changes.  

 

  11. Assists the Board of Directors in recruiting, training and
      maintaining new Board members with the skills needed to further
      the mission of UNIDOS. 

 

  12. Facilitates the work of the Board and its committees by providing
      appropriate information and reports in a timely manner and
      assisting committee chairpersons as necessary.

 

  13. Responsible for support of all activities associated with the
      Board of Directors, including staffing for all Board and Committee
      meetings, meeting schedules, locations, development of agendas,
      resource materials and meeting materials.

 

  14. Responsible for all human resources functions.  Ensures optimum
      staffing, recommends changes to benefits, training and other areas
      as appropriate.  Responsible for supervision of all staff. 
      Responsibilities include scheduling and participating in
      interviews; recommendation for hiring and training employees;
      developing higher levels of expertise in staff members by
      encouraging  further education, participation in work-related
      seminars and providing learning opportunities within the
      organization; developing and providing leadership; planning,
      assigning and directing of work; appraising performance;
      recommending salary increases, rewarding and disciplining
      employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

 

  15. Assumes related responsibilities as appropriate or assigned by the
      Board.

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform 
each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are 
representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.  
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with

qualified candidate must possess a Bachelors degree or higher degree in 
social or human services, or a related field.  Extensive demonstrated 
experience in domestic violence work may be substituted for a Bachelors 
degree.  The candidate must have a minimum of three years of 
increasingly responsible administrative experience.   This includes 
experience in nonprofit management and administration, supervision, 
program development and evaluation, grant writing and financial 
responsibilities.  Experience in leadership development and community 
organizing preferred.

The qualified candidate must be bilingual (English/Spanish).  S/he must 
have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, 
financial reports, legal documents, technical procedures, and 
governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and 
procedure manuals; efficiently respond to questions from membership, 
staff and members of the community; communicate effectively in both 
languages in written and oral form.  The candidate must be an effective 
communicator with funding sources, Board of Directors, organizational 
membership, staff, external partners, Latino migrant and immigrant 
communities and other public groups.

The qualified candidate will possess the ability to define problems, 
collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and exhibit 
independent judgment and leadership in the development, implementation 
and evaluation of plans, policies and procedures.

The qualified candidate will have experience and knowledge in directing 
not-for-profit organizations.  S/he must have experience in grant 
writing and administration, community organizing, fiscal and 
organizational management, principles and practices of marketing and 
public relations.  Have the ability to plan, direct and coordinate 
activities; negotiate and administer contracts, work with health care 
providers, commercial vendors, government agencies, community groups and 
other organizations as necessary.
