As Co-Chairs of the Funders' Collaborative on Youth Organizing
(FCYO), We are writing to let you know that we have started a search
for a new Executive Director to help position the FCYO for continued
growth in the coming years. We are looking for a visionary Executive
Director with interest and energy in organization and community
building, and who is ready to partner with our Board of Directors to
accomplish FCYO's mission of cultivating resources for young people
taking action to build healthy and equitable communities.
We are reaching out to you to enlist your help in identifying
potential candidates for this position. Please spread the word to
qualified candidates. We are seeking an individual who takes
initiative, solves problems, and is creative and energetic about both
program and organizational matters. The ideal candidate will have
commitment to, and experience in, social justice movement building work
either as a practitioner or grantmaker, be knowledgeable about the
field, a strategic thinker, experienced in program management and
private sector fundraising, and an effective facilitator and
communicator. We seek candidates with five to ten years experience
either a grantmaker or practitioner leader with program and staff
management experience. A BA/BS (or Masters) is preferred but not
required. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Job Description: FCYO Executive Director
The Funders' Collaborative on Youth Organizing (FCYO) founded in 2000 is
a dynamic collective of national, regional and local grantmakers and
youth organizing practitioners dedicated to advancing youth organizing
as a strategy for youth development and social change. Our mission is
to cultivate resources for young people taking action to build healthy
and equitable communities. More information about us can be found at

General Responsibilities
The Executive Director shares the FCYO's overall commitment to social
justice movement building and to developing strategic supports and
philanthropic resources for youth-led community organizing for social
and economic justice. A significant portion of the Executive Director's
time involves relationship-building with grantmakers whose interests
align with those of the FCYO and practitioners and others who can inform
FCYO's work and activities. In carrying out his/her work, the Executive
Director operates in a highly collaborative manner, uniting staff,
funders and practitioners to advance the vision and work of the
organization. We are seeking a highly motivated, visionary and dynamic
leader.
Specific Responsibilities
* Assess the field of youth organizing and larger social justice
movement building to identify key trends to keep FCYO's programming
strategic to achieving our mission;
* Outreach to, and build relationships with, new funders and other
strategic partners, especially national, regional and local foundations,
and individual donor networks;
* Engage in Board recruitment, development and management, in
conjunction with Board members and Co-Chairs;
* Act as the public face of the FCYO, speaking at meetings,
conferences and other venues on a regular basis about FCYO's vision and
initiatives and issues in the field.
* Seek opportunities to raise the profile of FCYO and position the
Collaborative as an expert and key resource on youth organizing in the
philanthropic sector;
* Fundraise for yearly and three-year budget plans (approximately
$1 million per year);
* Provide fiscal management and budget oversight;
* Lead overall program oversight and planning and integration for
the FCYO;
* Supervise and support staff.
Qualifications
The Ideal Candidate will,
1. Have five or more years of significant experience (i.e.,
grantmaker or practitioner) with community organizing and
community-based non-profit organizations. Ideally, this experience would
be with low-income youth and youth of color, but we are open to
candidates with experiences in other social justice fields.
2. Be a talented and experienced relationship builder with a
diverse set of stakeholders including staff, Board, funders and
practitioners.
3. Be a deep strategic and analytical thinker; ability to practice
active reflection; assess external conditions and provide leadership in
collective process to refine strategic thinking.
4. Have the ability to articulate an analysis in a compelling way
about the strategic role of philanthropy in supporting youth organizing
and community-based efforts to achieve social, racial and economic justice.
5. Have demonstrated management experience, including hiring,
supervision, leadership development and evaluation and experience with
project management and liaising with multiple partners.
6. Demonstrate commitment to social justice principles in their
internal leadership, management and organizational styles as it relates
to staff and Board.
7. Have experience developing and managing organizational budgets
and fiscal oversight.
8. Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work with limited
supervision, manage multiple tasks, balance priorities and be task and
detail oriented.
A BA/BS (or Masters) is preferred but not required.

Salary is based on experience level, with a generous benefits package.
