gente – here in Boston, our only Black state senator and our most
progressive city councilor have been caught up in a bribery-extortion
scandal by the outgoing Asst. US Attorney, an outgoing Bush appointee.
notwithstanding the fact that the government’s Confidential Witness has
made a number of media statements about his motivations and the conduct
of the sting operation that seem to contradict the FBI’s official
version of events, the cases are proceeding to federal court — while the
court of (white) public opinion is already demanding blood.
i’m trying to assemble info on recent FBI sting operations in other
cities that have snared Black (or Latino) political leaders at the
local/state level for corruption, hoping to determine whether there is a
pattern suggesting that US Justice Dept is again selectively targeting
Black political leaders for prosecution (à lá COINTELPRO).
thus far, i’ve located a number of historical articles on the subject,
located a (very) few recent on-line news clips, and now turn to
co-listers for additional leads. — tdp

Within an individual’s biography and within a society’s history, the
social task of reason is to formulate choices, to enlarge the scope of
human decisions in the making of history (C.Wright Mills 1959).
