Hi everyone - please see below from the New York Immigration Coalition
about an exciting new community organizing initiative in NYC.

Dear Friends and Members,

I am very excited to let you know about the Center for Neighborhood
Leadership - a new project that the New York Immigration Coalition and
the Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development are jointly
forming. I also want to request your help finding a Director for the
project. The Center for Neighborhood Leadership will create a
much-needed infrastructure to support community organizing across the
city and across many issues. The Center will also use the growing
political presence of immigrants as an opportunity to engage more
immigrant leaders and communities in organizing work.

The Center will begin with three elements:

1. A year-long, full-time apprenticeship program for new organizers
that will create a pipeline for developing the organizers which
community groups need to have a real voice on policy decisions.
2. A regular, semester-long seminar and learning community for
mid-level organizers that will provide advanced training and education
for mid-level organizers to hone their organizing and strategic skills,
broaden their view of organizing and community change work, stimulate
and reinforce them in their practice, and help them see a long-term
career path in the field.
3. Ongoing coaching, training and technical assistance for
organizing groups working on different issues, including monthly group
trainings and coordinated peer-to-peer learning and mentoring that will
help neighborhood groups develop effective and successful organizing
models, strategies, and skills.

We plan to have the Center will be up and running in 2009, but we need
your help. We need to hire a great Director to run the Center for
Neighborhood Leadership and put together all the program elements.
Please take a look at the job announcement for the Director position and
encourage anyone who you think would be qualified to apply. We need a
first-rate person with strong program management and organizing
experience to run the Center.

and review the
concept paper summary that more fully explains how the Center for
Neighborhood Leadership will work. Questions about the project should be
directed to Ericka Stallings via email at estallings at thenyic.org.

Sincerely,

 Chung-Wha Hong
Executive Director
New York Immigration Coalition
