[ed: Janet, Kathy, and Dave offer reflections and information.]

From: "J. Reasoner" <janaki at tctwest.net>

I just had a phone conversation with Greg at the end of February.
Hadn't talked with him for several years. He had a point of view that
was unique and a way of putting things that was always
thought-provoking, if not sharply humorous. He was always generous with
his knowledge and time. I know I'm not the only person who learned a
lot from him over the years, not just about workplace fundraising but
about how to keep after something until you get a result.

Thanks for sharing this. For those who want to express their memories
of Greg Truog, visionary leader in the community shares movement, who
passed away recently (and suddenly) at 58, or simply to read the words
of others and see some photos.

Dear Our Giving Community,

Alyssa Kopf, CEO of Community Shares of Colorado, sends us the following
message with information about Greg’s service, memorial gifts and the
online tribute page they have posted:

Thanks to everyone from Our Giving Community for the outpouring of your
love and support for Greg and Laurie. I just got off the phone with
Laurie and she sounded very strong. She has been touched by the
outpouring of support and that some of Greg’s friends from around the
country may be coming in to wish him farewell. Go to our website
www.cshares.org or see below for additional information about the
tribute page for Greg where you can post stories and memories, the Greg
Truog Community Fund, and directions to his service.

If anyone is flying in for the day, please consider using the Community
Shares of Colorado office as a meet-up point. You can take the bus from
the airport to our office downtown for under $10 and I will arrange for
transportation as needed to the services. Please plan on being here by
10:30am to head to the services. Also, please let me know if you are
attending so I can arrange needed transportation.

Greg Truog was the heart and soul of Community Shares for the 14 years
he served as Executive Director. Greg passionately believed the mission
of Community Shares was to build a movement of nonprofit organizations
with a common commitment to social justice. He believed it was
essential to provide funding and awareness for social justice
organizations and invest in core support of their work. Some Community
Shares member agencies are overlooked because they are too
controversial, confrontational, and messy for high profile funding
campaigns. However, their work is essential in building a more
equitable, vital, and vibrant community.

Greg’s wife, Laurie Harvey, shared the best way to honor Greg is to
support his vision of funding the social justice organizations that make
our communities better. Community Shares is honored to host the Greg
Truog Community Fund. Laurie will determine how to use the gifts made
in honor of Greg's legacy. We will contact all who give to the fund to
let you know how your financial tribute to Greg is invested in the
community. Click here to donate to the fund today.

A service has been scheduled for Friday, April 11th at 11am at the
Applewood Valley United Methodist Church, 2035 Ellis Street in Golden.

Community Shares of Colorado is hosting an online tribute page for Greg
and we invite you to share comments, stories, and thoughts with us.
Click here to view the tribute page.

Our thanks to Greg for his absolute dedication to Community Shares and
the movement to democratize philanthropy. Please contact Alyssa Kopf,
CEO of Community Shares (303-861-7507) with any questions or to share
stories of Greg’s life and work.

Thanks and regards,

Alyssa
