Research & Policy Coordinator
Families United for Racial and Economic Equality (FUREE) is seeking a 
Research & Policy Coordinator to support our exciting racial and 
economic justice campaigns working with low wage workers and low-income 
families. We are looking for a dedicated, passionate, experienced person 
who is looking to work in a growing organization of local and national 
prominence doing cutting edge racial and economic justice organizing. 
Our campaigns include: organizing against gentrification and for 
community-led accountable development, winning better wages and working 
conditions for family day care providers, building the power of young 
people of color to organize for change in their communities, and a voter 
engagement project in low-income and working class communities of color.
Who we are: FUREE is a multi-racial, woman-led membership organization 
in Brooklyn, New York. FUREE is organizing to build a strong base of 
low-income women of color to build power to change policy to win 
permanent exits from poverty for low-income families. Our guiding 
principle is that the people who are directly impacted by the policies 
we are seeking to change should lead the organization.
We are seeking a Research & Policy Coordinator to support our organizing 
campaigns, particularly our anti-gentrification organizing campaign in 
Downtown Brooklyn and Fort Greene. Policy and research work will cover a 
variety of issues including, but not limited to: zoning and land use, 
researching model policies and strategies, mapping, child care policy.
We are looking for someone who is interested in bringing technical 
skills and expertise to the grassroots – someone interested in 
supporting the development of policy from the ground up and anxious to 
fuse policy/research work with ongoing direct-action organizing 
campaigns. The position provides successful an opportunity to engage 
multiple strategies for assisting in moving campaigns forward:
Responsibilities include: 1) Developing Policy Proposals: in 
collaboration with our members, develop proposals for local policies and 
programs that support the advancement of low-income families and 
communities. 2) Conducting Research & Disseminating Information to our 
Members: conceptualize and carry out research on programs and policies 
impacting low-income families of color, create interactive and dynamic 
ways to present research and information to our members 3) Supporting 
Campaigns: work with community members and organizational staff to 
develop and implement campaign strategies to win policy proposals at 
city and state levels; 4) Providing Training to Community Members: 
develop and give trainings to community leaders on policy issues and 
processes; 5) Advocating for Change: participate in meetings with 
elected officials and governmental committees, and help prepare 
community members to do the same, to promote organizational policy 
proposals; and 6) Coalition/Partnership Building: conduct and/or attend 
meetings with allies and additional stakeholders in order to advance 
progressive policies and programs in line with campaign goals.

Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to building long-term power for 
low-income people of color, their families, and their communities. A 
minimum of 2-3 years experience in research, organizing, or political 
advocacy on public policy issues is critical, particularly in land use, 
planning and development. Excellent research, analytical, writing, and 
oral communication skills.
The capacity to work independently and collaboratively as part of a 
team. · Graduate degree in public policy / administration, urban 
planning, social work, or relevant field is desired. Willingness to work 
some evenings & weekends. Speaking Spanish a HUGE plus.
