I use the film about the South Roxbury Neighborhood in Boston entitled
Common Ground in my Foundations of Community Practice class at the soc wk
school at Washington University. There is also a great documentary about
Saul Alinsky done by the Univ of CA Extension.

Berkeley Media's "The Democratic Promise: Saul Alinsky and His Legacy"
is excellent. It traces some of the organizing work of Alinsky, but
also focuses on 2 more contemporary case studies, one in Austin, TX and
the other in Brooklyn, NY.

Hi Susan:
We are currently working on an on-line video training to certify Community
Weavers. The demand to implement Community Weaving practices has surpassed
our ability to meet the demand. Community Weaving addresses the practice
and
principals to engage citizens to take responsbility for what they love.
You'll find more detailed information about theory and pratice at
www.communityweaving.org. Go to www.familynetwork.org to view webtools and
features to weave the human and tangible resources of the grassroots with
the skills and expertise of local professionals inside and outside of
organizations. People want to be heard and know their action (no matter how
big or small) makes a difference and that they are appreciated for their
unique contribution. Leaders need data to reflect the shift in reliance off
of formal systems to people taking responsibility for one another.
I'd be happy to send a ppt presentations in pdf format to anyone who wants
to familiarize themselves that details the CW Methodology to create
sustainable change and restore democractic practices. See attachments.
Regards,
Cheryl Honey, C.P.P.
