JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
PUSHBACK NETWORK
Position Available: Program Director, Pushback Network
THE PUSHBACK NETWORK
The Pushback Network is a national collaboration of indigenous,
grassroots organizations and networks committed to building bottom-up
state-based alliances that change both the composition and levels of
participation of the electorate. We emphasize strategies to empower
underrepresented constituencies: people of color, poor and working class
communities, and young people. Currently, PBN is developing and
implementing voter engagement and other civic participation strategies
in six states: Alabama, California, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico
and New York.
The Pushback Network was formed to "push back" against what it considers
to be shortsighted, tactical approaches to increasing civic
participation and revitalizing democracy. We have based our strategies
and plans on the following premises:
Strategic and long-term planning is absolutely necessary for success
Developing state alliances and partnerships, as PBN conceives them, from
the bottom up is the most effective strategy to build and apply
grassroots strength
Targeting our constituent bass of people of color, young people, poor
and working class communities is an essential component of expanding the
electorate ensuring long-term change, and encouraging needed
participation in re-shaping government and society
Indigenous organizations using community organizing strategies are the
most effective kinds of groups - in practice and potentially - for
expanding the base of grassroots voters
Multiple, integrated strategies are essential for authentic success
