The Insight Center for Community Economic Development announces new Vice
President
Oakland -- The Insight Center for Community Economic Development has
appointed Chantel L. Walker as its new Vice President.
"Ms. Walker's outstanding leadership skills and extensive expertise in
the community development field will add tremendous value to the Insight
Center," said Roger Clay, President. "Her extraordinary range of
knowledge - as a grantmaker, policy advocate, direct service provider,
and technical assistance consultant - is a perfect fit for our
multidisciplinary approach to community economic development.
Ms. Walker brings to the Insight Center her years of experience as
program officer as well as a senior staff member at the Marguerite Casey
Foundation, Marin Community Foundation, and the Haas Fund. She has
directed major community development efforts including a multimillion
dollar initiative to bridge the digital divide as well as having worked
with the Insight Center in senior level positions. Most recently, she
was Principal of the Walkeryee Group, a national consulting and research
firm, which worked with such clients as the Louisiana Disaster Recovery
Foundation, the State of Missouri and the California Endowment. Ms.
Walker has published and presented on the issues of community economic
development, philanthropy, and early childhood education.
Ms. Walker is a member of the Board of Directors of the San Francisco
Education Fund and the Association of Black Foundation Executives. She
holds a Bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of
Pennsylvania and a Master's degree in Public Administration from the
University of San Francisco.
The Insight Center for Community Economic Development, formerly the
National Economic Development and Law Center (NEDLC), is a national
research, consulting and legal organization dedicated to helping people
and communities become, and remain, economically secure. The Insight
Center's multidisciplinary approach utilizes a wide array of community
economic development strategies including industry-focused workforce
development, individual and community asset building, establishing the
link between early care and education and economic development, and
advocating for the adoption of the Self-Sufficiency Standard as a
measurement of wage adequacy and an alternative to the Federal Poverty Line.
