Jews for Racial & Economic Justice (JFREJ) is seeking a full-time,
experienced Community Organizer to lead our community organizing
efforts. JFREJ is a membership-based organizing group that fights for
racial, social, economic and gender justice in New York City. JFREJ was
founded in 1990 to fill the need for progressive Jewish leadership in
confronting the growing racial and ethnic tension and economic disparity
within New York City. Utilizing community organizing, political
education, and arts and cultural programming, we seek to expose
injustice and win policy changes at the local and city-wide level. Our
work provides a unique opportunity for Jews in New York to build a
Jewish identity with justice at its core, and to partner with ally
organizations led by low-income people, immigrants and people of color.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-- Coordinate JFREJ's campaign work, including campaign strategy and
work-planning, identifying and reaching out to potential and long-term

-- Develop the leadership of JFREJ members through trainings, political
education, and one-to-one meetings.

-- Schedule a minimum of five one-to-one meetings per week.

-- Complete an additional 5 hours per week of outreach through building
relationships with diverse Jewish communities, house meetings, and
public events.

-- Support arts and cultural programming in JFREJ, including community
building activities and Jewish holiday events.

-- Attend coalition meetings, and represent JFREJ to other community
groups and the media.

-- Recruit dues-paying members and provide support fundraising events,
including our annual Rabbi Marshall T. Meyer Risk-taker Awards

Qualifications:

-- 3 to 5 years experience in community, labor, electoral or advocacy
organizing

-- Experience working in Jewish communities

-- Strong commitment to struggle for racial, economic and gender
justice and to JFREJ's mission

-- Good communication, facilitation, and writing skills

-- Well-organized, able to manage details efficiently, and multi-task

--Ability to work independently and with supervision, as well as being
an enthusiastic team player

 -- Supervision experience preferred

-- Desire to learn and openness to challenge

-- Computer proficiency, including word processing, web skills, and
internet research tools. Familiarity with databases preferred

Sephardic Jews, Mizrahi Jews, people of color, women, transgender,
