This autumn, Making Waves: Canada's Community Economic Development
Magazine offers a Special Edition on community control of health care.
Our long-standing national debate over the merits of "public" or
"private" health care is a false dichotomy. In this edition, 12 writers
present the case for vastly increasing the capacity and authority of
local (non-medical) people to design, deliver, and evaluate the health
services available to them and their neighbours.
Despite time-worn ideological differences, co-operators, community and
Aboriginal health activists, medical professionals, and CED
practitioners find themselves in agreement that health care will not
improve without substantial direction - and outright ownership - by
organized citizenry. How then to make that shift of power and
responsibility a reality, not an anomaly? What roles then remain to
government and to private business?
The complete contents are available in PDF from
www.cedworks.com/waves.html. Apart from subscribers, a nominal charge
applies to print copies on this occasion. A complete French-language
version is in preparation.
Apologies for cross-postings.
