Program Officer

Asset Building and Community Development Program

Community and Resource Development

 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Program Officer will develop and manage a
portfolio of grants in the field of community development that strive to
promote regional approaches to equitable and sustainable community
development and to advance field practices in this area.  The Program
Officer will build on current work with a network of grantees that links
community based institutions with researchers, policy analysts and other
public and private sector leaders who share a commitment to equity,
fairness and sustainability in community and metropolitan development.

 The Program Officer will be expected to create and strengthen linkages
that advance the theory and practice of community development, regional
equity, and sustainable communities, as well as contribute to the
Foundation's overall work in the community development field.  The
Program Officer's responsibilities will include reviewing the current
status of the field, developing program initiatives, reviewing and
responding to proposals, preparing written background materials and
recommending actions for possible Foundation funding.  In addition, the
Program Officer will act as a liaison with non-profit and academic
grantees; leaders in the community development field; and other
Foundation staff working on various topics in community development,
regional equity, smart growth, and policies for sustainable regions.
The Program Officer also will participate in the Living Cities
collaborative of foundations, financial institutions and government
agencies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Significant experience in the field of community
development with a combination of research, policy analysis, and
implementation experience. Demonstrated capacity to develop innovative
community development strategies and substantial experience with policy
development, coalition building, community development implementation
and understanding of the impact of racial and class inequities on
community development. Excellent analytical, organizational, and oral
and written communication skills. An advanced degree in political
science, sociology, economics or other relevant field is preferred.

 

Salary is based on experience and on the Foundation's commitment to
