Mississippi State Director



Parents for Public Schools (PPS) is seeking a State Director for its new 
statewide project in Mississippi: “From the Schoolhouse to the 
Statehouse,” a multi-year plan to develop parent leaders to become 
effective advocates for providing high quality public education for all 
Mississippians at the local school, district, and state levels. The 
Mississippi State Director will implement an organizing effort that 
includes membership recruitment and networking, and leadership training 
for parents with the goal of improving Mississippi public schools.



Qualifications for position:



Ø Strong commitment to public education, emphasizing equitable access to 
high quality public schools for all;

Ø Experience in organizing parents and developing parent leaders;

Ø Strong organizational skills for building and maintaining an active 
membership organization;

Ø Excellent written and oral communication skills;

Ø Experience working with diverse groups of people around common goals;

Ø Experience managing staff in a team setting;

Ø Strategic thinker who understands the “big picture” and can manage 
details of the work;



Responsibilities:



Ø Implement statewide plan: “From the Schoolhouse to the Statehouse”;

Ø Become knowledgeable about public education needs throughout Mississippi;

Ø Develop strategy to engage parent leaders and advocates;

Ø Build diverse membership throughout Mississippi;

Ø Direct staff located throughout the state;

Ø Communicate PPS mission while implementing details of work plan;

Ø Assist Development Director to raise funds;



Position begins October 1, 2007 and is located in Jackson, Mississippi.
