Tennesseans for Fair Taxation
East Tennessee Regional Organizer
Tennesseans for Fair Taxation (TFT) is a statewide coalition working
to create a fair and just tax system that invests in Tennessee, its
communities, and its people. Coming off the heels of a statewide
victory in 2007, we're gearing up for another exciting year in 2008.
We're looking for an East Tenn. Regional Organizer to join our
winning staff team. Responsibilities include:
Develop & Support Local Organizing Chapters & Regional Coalition:
Identify core leaders and form local organizing chapters (LOCs) in
target areas. Work with LOC members to develop and carry out local
plans for community education, media work, direct action, grassroots
lobbying, and fundraising. Develop strong relationships with
organizational representatives throughout region and include them in
the broader organizational work.
Implement and Integrate Statewide Strategies at a Local Level:
Provide staff support to at least one statewide committee. Work with
members to implement local media activities, grassroots lobbying, and
workshop outreach efforts as part of broader statewide strategy.
Coordinate regional aspects of statewide fundraising strategies, to
include house parties, phone-a-thons, major donor work, and
membership drives.
Management and General Duties: Share in administrative and management
duties of the statewide office in Knoxville such as organizing news
clippings, photo archives, and financial controls. Assist with
writing and reporting of organizational activities for newsletter,
grant reports, and other publications. Regularly communicate and
coordinate work with other members of the staff team through monthly
staff meetings, check-ins, work plans, and other requirements.
EXPECTATIONS:
We're looking for an organizer with at least two years experience in
grassroots organizing and coalition building. Should understand group
process and have the ability to move groups through a collaborative
decision-making process to take collective action. Must have strong
interpersonal and networking skills. An understanding of leadership
development, grassroots lobbying, community outreach, popular
education, and media campaigns expected. Writing and analytical
skills are also important for the work.
Must be a self-starter with strong time management and planning
skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a staff team.
Requires occasional overnight travel and evening meetings. Organizers
must be committed to the values of Tennesseans for Fair Taxation.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
Full-time, competitive salary in the low to mid-30s DOE, health care
benefits, pension plan, paid vacation and holidays. There is a 6-
month probationary period for all new staff.
