POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Day Labor Organizer/Manager



The Virginia Justice Center, a statewide project of the Legal Aid
Justice Center, seeks a qualified Day Labor Organizer/Manager to work
with day laborers in Fairfax County.  Based in the VJC's Falls Church
office, this individual will primarily work in the Annandale day labor
hiring area.



The Day Labor Organizer/Manager will be responsible for all aspects of
on-site management of the existing hiring area, including:

*    Organization of day laborers at hiring area;
*    Daily data gathering and record-keeping;
*    Workers' rights education and training in coordination with
VJC's Community Educator;
*    Organization of periodic cultural and community-building events;

*    Interacting with the day labor-community and outreach to
surrounding businesses, local police, and other community members;
*    Participation in on-site and community conflict resolution
activities.



Strong oral and written communications skills in Spanish are required.
Applicants should be highly organized and able to manage multiple
ongoing projects.  The primary work hours of this position will be in
the early morning Monday through Saturday, but successful applicants
must be able to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings.
Experience in community organizing, preferably with low-income Latino
populations, is preferred and prior experience working with day laborers
is a plus.
