Position: Organizer

Required Qualifications
· Shares a progressive political perspective and commitment to the
mission of CFA
· Good organizing skills; developing relationships with grassroots
leaders, recruiting and assisting members in accomplishing campaign
goals and executing tactics
· Must be capable of translating people’s concerns and needs into
policy; understanding context of policies, the legislative process and
how government works; monitoring legislative activity
· Ability to plan and execute campaigns, design workshops and staff a
committee to run strategy
· Has some knowledge and understanding of steps involved in developing
of alternative food related businesses.
· Takes initiative, self-motivated, can work independently as well as in
team, works well under pressure, creative thinker, good problem solver
· Research, writing and computer skills necessary
· Bachelors degree, preferably in a relevant field
Must be able to make a minimum one-year commitment
Preferred Qualifications
· Two years of experience in rural community organizing or development
of food related alternative businesses.
Position: Business Development Organizer

Job Description
The organizer will work primarily with CFA farmers engaged in the
production end of building local food markets in Louisville, as well as
with food-related businesses. The organizer will report to the director.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Assisting CFA members in accomplishing economic development goals,
including talking to members about difficulties they are having and
identifying and implementing solutions.
* Conducting participatory feasibility studies and writing business
plans for farmer and resident-owned local food businesses.
* Marketing research and policy analysis, including gathering baseline
data on food production, consumption patterns, and distribution systems.
* Developing quality educational materials, ensuring that CFA membership
receives requested information in a timely manner.
* Developing relationships with allies, decision makers and the media is
also required.
Required Qualifications
* Shares a progressive political perspective and commitment to the
mission of CFA
* Good organizing skills; ability to develop relationships with
grassroots leaders, understand what a sustainable food economy is, and
understand the relationship between CFA policy and project goals.
* Ability to work with various constituencies toward the same goal
* Extensive knowledge and understanding of steps in the development of
alternative food related businesses.
* Takes initiative, self-motivated, can work independently as well as in
team, works well under pressure, creative and independent thinker, good
problem solver
* Writing, computer skills, familiarity with research methodologies
including GIS and other research databases.
* Three years experience in agricultural and economic development
research and Masters degree in relevant field, or two years experience
in development of food related alternative businesses.
* Capable of transforming data into quality educational materials
including power point presentations
* Experience as a volunteer or paid staff working in a grassroots
community-based non-profit organization
