Greetings from the Colorado office of Interfaith Funders!
As the spring holidays unfold, I'm happy to share a link to the Spring
2006 Shelterforce magazine, which focuses on the Katrina Aftermath. Of
particular interest to us is a detailed article on the organizing of
ACORN, PICO, and the IAF, "Picking up the Pieces."
Author Miriam Axel-Lute quotes network leaders Christine Stephens of the
IAF, Gordon Whitman of PICO and ACORN's Wade Rathke as well as funders,
such as Dave Beckwith of the Needmor Fund and Janet Perkins of Southern
Partners Fund. The article outlines the immediate responses and the
current work of the networks, as well as addressing issues such as
collaboration, funder roles, and organizing's potential.
We invite you to link to this article, and other organizing news and
resources, by visiting the new Interfaith Funders website,
www.interfaithfunders.org or link directly to the article below.
Best wishes,
Kathy
Picking Up The Pieces By Miriam Axel-Lute
Displaced and overwhelmed, three major organizing networks – ACORN, IAF
and PICO – provided immediate aid to evacuees and began working for
long-term equitable recovery. Will they be able to rise to the human and
political challenges they now face?
