Employment Opportunity: Operations Manager

The George Wiley Center is Rhode Island’s only statewide community 
grassroots organizing agency on economic justice and poverty. Founded in 
1981, we have won major victories on issues such as universal free 
school breakfast, a state refundable earned income tax credit, 
affordable energy discounts and protections for low-income and working 
families.


Job Description: The Operations Manager is responsible for all 
fund-raising, communications and administrative functions at the George 
Wiley Center.

FUND DEVELOPMENT
(1) Identify potential governmental & private funding sources and submit 
funding proposals. Submit all required reports and maintain records 
related to existing grants.

(2) Cultivate new individual donors and communicate with current donors 
to increase total annual giving. Assist board members on one-to-one 
solicitations of major donors.

(3) Work with board members and other staff and volunteers to plan and 
implement at least two fundraising special events per year.

COMMUNICATIONS
(4) Communicate with present and potential donors and interested publics 
through production of a newsletter, funds solicitation letters, and 
maintenance of a donor database.

(5) Plan and implement, with support from the board and staff, the 
Action Conference of the R.I. Campaign to Eliminate Childhood Poverty.

(6) Gather information and produce position papers, press statements and 
legislative testimony on issues of importance to the agency's organizing 
and advocacy efforts.

ADMINISTRATION
(7) Provide staff support for all board and board committee meetings, 
including minutes-keeping, mailing of notices, and dissemination of 
information.

(8) Perform routine administrative functions of the George Wiley Center, 
including but not limited to:
a) renewal of all insurance and required licenses.
b) purchasing.
c) coordination with the auditor and bookkeeper.
d) maintenance of all essential agency files.
e) oversight of all computer files and functions.

Qualifications: Proven successful grant development and individual donor 
solicitations for a non-profit human services or advocacy organization. 
Previous management experience. Experience with Microsoft Office 
software. Strong writing skills. Previous activism experience and 
knowledge of poverty issues is preferred.

Other requirements: Use of a car on full-time basis is strongly preferred.
