Community Organizers (1 Full Time, 1 Part Time)
For the Save Middle East Action Committee (SMEAC).
SMEAC represents the residents of East Baltimore who are being relocated
due to the Johns Hopkins/Baltimore City government’s BioTech Park
project. We are currently hiring two community organizers (one full time
and one part time) who will continue the work to unite people in the
area and across the city around the principles and program developed by
the residents of Middle East as they are facing relocation from their
homes. The work will be carried out through the resident’s organization,
the Save Middle East Action Committee (SMEAC). The individual will be
outreaching to residents through door knocking, popular education and
other methods with the goal of the residents having a voice in the
process and a full awareness of the choices facing them; in addition,
the organizer will be building city-wide support for the Middle East
residents in their effort to be treated with respect and dignity during
the relocation process.
Qualifications: Experience as a community or political organizer and/or
public policy advocate; knowledge/background in housing and neighborhood
issues; knowledge of and sensitivity to anti-oppression issues; writing,
public speaking and record keeping skills; enthusiasm for and knowledge
of grassroots outreach methods; computer skills include word processing
and familiarity with databases. High level of self-motivation important.
Competitive Salary based on experience; benefits included for full time
position.
