Citizens Coal Council
Job Description
Title: Council Coordinator
Location: Washington, PA
Background:
The Citizens Coal Council (CCC) was founded in 1989 as a coalition of
grassroots organizations working to protect people, land, and water from the
harmful effects of coal mining. The Council serves as a national voice for
coalfield residents of 15 states and several Native American Nations,
working to protect the environment and communities from the effects of
mining and burning coal.
Summary of Position:
The Council Coordinator will report directly to the Board of Directors and
will be responsible for development and administration of the organization
including fundraising, Board development, facility operations, and
staff/volunteer coordination. The Coordinator will also be responsible for
working with board members, volunteers, and staff from other organizations
and contract employees to move CCC¹s program work. The position will
require an individual with strong leadership and management skills, ability
to work independently and be accountable to a volunteer Board.
This is currently a part time position, but the Board plans to make it full
time after four to six months. This is an exciting opportunity for someone
interested in environmental justice and/or grassroots organizing to grow and
develop while working with a dedicated and supportive Board to ensure the
future success of an organization that plays a critical role in the
coalfield justice movement.
Desired Skills and Experience:
* Grassroots and foundation fundraising
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Experience working in a small non-profit
* Knowledge of financial planning and management
* Experience (as staff or volunteer) with grassroots organizing
* Knowledge of environmental and/or coal mining issues
* Experience with coalition-building
* Excellent time management skills
* Ability to move and work successfully in different classes and worlds from
the grassroots to the philanthropic, political and economic arenas
* Ability to establish open, honest, direct, and candid relationships with
Board, staff, members and others
* Articulated and demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of CCC
