The January/February issue of Shelterforce magazine begins a
yearlong examination of community development through the prism
of Newark, NJ. Executive Editor Linda Ocasio provides a
snapshot of the changing fortunes of New Jersey's largest city
and what it means for the future role of Newark's CDCs. Another
article examines the relevance of CDCs in neighborhoods on the
verge of gentrification. Other articles highlight a "community
of practice" created by 10 CDCs, discuss the name game some
developers play with "affordability" and look at community
development and affordable housing from a European perspective.
