[ed: Please copy COMM-ORG with your responses to Gene's query. I
heard Ernie Cortez use this metaphor at a talk a couple of years ago,
but don't know if it has been written down.]
From: Gene Allen <gaaunhs at yahoo.com>
I am looking for an obscure reference.
In essence it describes a community organizer as "A
community agitator" The text goes on to explain that
the agitatior is the central part of a washing
machine. It keeps everything moving and gets all the
dirt out.
Supposedly it comes from a book on community
activisim. I don't know anything other than this but
. . . I am trying to track down the book and the
actual quote.
Can anyone out there help?

If no one on this list can help I know it is hopeless.
Thank you for all your help.
