The Southern Funding Collaborative (composed of the Appalachian
Community Fund, the Fund for Southern Communities, and the Southern
Partners Fund) seeks an experienced development consultant to work over
a period of 12-18 months to identify new sources of funds, plan funder
briefings, and raise substantial new funds to support the
Collaborative’s commitment to community organizing in the South.
General responsibilities
In consultation with the three partners,
* Develop a case statement for the Southern Funding Collaborative
* Develop a realistic fundraising plan
* Identify new sources of funds to support community organizing in the South
* Establish relationships on behalf of the Collaborative with new funders
* Plan and coordinate funder briefings
* Raise funds ($220,000) to match the Ford grant
* Maintain documentation for preparation of reports to funders
* Provide regular progress reports to all SFC partners
* Participate as needed in conference calls with SFC partners
* Some travel
Specific expectations:
* Organize funders briefings
Consultant will identify new funders interested in the Collaborative and
will arrange meetings for Collaborative partners with those funders.
These meetings may be briefings for more than one funder, may coincide
with grantee gatherings, or may be with a single funder.
* Raise new money ($220,000)
* Write Proposals
* Submit materials to Collaborative for review and approval
* Be attentive when funders indicate interest in the Collaborative’s
future support of community organizing and for the work of grantees
* Provide bi-weekly (or more often as needed) progress reports for the
first two months and then as needed
* Participate in conference calls as needed
* Begin immediately
Qualifications
Required
· Minimum 5 years of foundation and/or other non-profit related experience
· Multiple years foundation fundraising with a track record of success
· Knowledge of social justice foundations
· Knowledge of social justice issues in the Southern US
· Excellent oral and written communications skills
· Understanding of organizing in rural communities
· Ability to communicate with diverse people (foundations, grantees,
potential donors)
· Ability to coordinate meetings and special events
· Self-directed, self-motivated, self-disciplined
· Able to work with a team
· Strong connection to the Southern US
Desirable
· BA or MA degree
· Experience working with grassroots organizations
· Experience with community organizing
· Experience working in rural communities
· Experience working in community-based, public foundations
