SENIOR ORGANIZER
PORTLAND SCHOOLS ALLIANCE
The Portland Schools Alliance is a community-based network of
parents, teachers, and principals working in Portland Public
Schools. Our mission is to strengthen public education for all
children by developing the leadership of parents, teachers,
principals and students, building a relational culture within
school communities and organizing leaders and allies to take
collective action to improve our schools and public education.
This position is for a bilingual organizer to work in several
school communities across the Schools Alliance’s network.
Responsibilities:
o Identify and develop leadership of parents in schools within
our network through individual outreach and mentoring.
o Lead teams of parent leaders and school staff in organizing
efforts at individual schools and across clusters of schools.
o Mentor and coach veteran parent leaders to become skilled
parent organizers.
o Develop and conduct trainings for parents, teachers, and allies.
o Collaborate with team of organizers, leaders and allies on
network-wide organizing efforts.
Required qualifications:
o Bilingual English-Spanish.
o Three years experience in community organizing and building
leadership
o Commitment to all children having the capacity to succeed in
school
o Ability to be self-directed and take initiative.
o Ability to work with diverse groups of people
o Good oral and written communication skills, including computer
literacy
o Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and
weekends
o Must have car and car insurance
Preferred qualifications:
o Proven ability to supervise, support, and develop staff and
parent leaders
o Working knowledge of urban public school systems
o Bi-cultural
o People of color and women strongly encouraged to apply
Salary range (FTE) is $30,000 to $34,000 with medical and dental
insurance. The Portland Schools Alliance is a family-friendly
employer. We are open to considering part-time or non-traditional
hours for this position.
