Dear Friends,
I'm writing today because I could use some help with an adjunct
job search at Antioch New England Graduate School. Students in
our masters program in Environmental Advocacy and Organizing are
required to take a course in Organizational Leadership in the
Nonprofit World--hopefully during next semester. Unfortunately, a
qualified woman who was interested in teaching it has just backed
out for a variety of personal reasons. So, I'm left with needing
to find an adjunct faculty member to teach this course fairly
quickly. I wonder if there is anyone among your network of New
England contacts who might be a good person to take this on. I've
enclosed the position announcement below to acquaint you with the
particulars of the position. Please feel free to send it on far
and wide to anyone you think might be a good fit for this
position. Also, if you have any suggestions for people I should
contact directly please let me know that as well.
I really appreciate your help with this.
All my best,
Steve Chase

Adjunct Faculty Job Opening
Teaching Organizational Leadership in the Nonprofit World
At Antioch New England Graduate School
Antioch New England Graduate School invites applications for an
Adjunct Faculty position in the Department of Environmental
Studies to teach Organizational Leadership in the Nonprofit
World. This is a three-credit spring semester course that
begins in January 2004 and will meet weekly at our Keene, New
Hampshire campus on Thursday afternoons or evenings. (If combined
with a one or two weekend intensive, the number of weekly
sessions could be reduced to fit the adjuncts schedule.)
This Organizational Leadership course is a core requirement in
Antioch New Englands new Environmental Advocacy and Organizing
Program. A curriculum plan for the whole program, as well as a
syllabus for the Organizational Leadership course used in a
previous year, is available on request. The current course
description for the course reads: Just as the human body
requires healthy organs to function well, a social movement
requires well-run organizations. To become effective
organizational leaders, people need to develop self-awareness, a
healthy and balanced approach to life and work, good listening
and communication skills, a keen understanding of group dynamics,
and the ability to facilitate productive meetings.
Organizational leaders also need to be visionaries who can manage
time, money, emotions, and other people competently. This course
will focus on such skills and explore how they can be combined to
improve our personal effectiveness in creating growing, healthy,
and successful organizations.
Applicants should have relevant practical and academic experience
in the field of organizational development and nonprofit
management and have knowledge of the special organizational
leadership challenges facing grassroots organizations and public
interest advocacy groups. Applicants should also have experience
in designing courses and teaching with creative and progressive
approaches to adult education.
Application deadline is December 20, 2003. Applicants will be
reviewed upon receipt, and search will continue until the
position is filled. Applicants should send a statement of
interest, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference to:
