ANNOUNCEMENT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN) is a dynamic
organization that strengthens the capacities of Asian and Pacific
Islander American communities through community organizing,
leadership development and advocacy. APEN has thirteen staff
and seven Board members, and has offices in Oakland and
Richmond California. Visit our website at www.apen4ej.org. APEN
seeks an Executive Director to lead a dedicated group to build
grassroots power in Asian-Pacific Islander communities.
The Executive Director is expected to provide strategic leadership
to APEN to ensure that the organizing, networking, and alliance
building strategies coordinate and support each other. The
position is also responsible for overall management including all
operational and financial management, planning, marketing, and
fundraising efforts to support and implement APEN92s mission.
The Executive Director works closely with an active Board to
develop, refine, and implement the organization's strategy and
vision. Additionally, the Executive Director plays a role in
maintaining appropriate collaborative relationships with other
nonprofit and public agencies in order to fulfill the mission of
APEN. The following are the primary tasks of the position.
Summary of Duties Develops diversified fund development
strategies for APEN, and is the primary fundraiser Is visible in,
and communicates closely with APEN92s two offices, and all staff
Provides leadership to the staff in creating and sustaining open
and democratic processes Provides leadership, oversight and
support for the management team Creates (with Board and
staff) and holds the organization92s vision and works with Board
and staff to develop achievable goals Oversees and facilitates
leadership development of staff and constituents Leads and
facilitates strategic and organizational planning processes
Facilitates Board development and communications Serves as a
spokesperson for APEN Plays a leadership role in joint work with
other networks and organizations
Qualifications Commitment to, and passion for, environmental and
social justice for API communities Minimum of three years
management level experience working with diverse staff and
Board, preferably within the nonprofit sector Successful
experience in fundraising, planning, financial management and
organizational development Demonstrated knowledge of the
principles and methods of organizing Excellent written and oral
communication skills Experience leading and managing a team-
based environment; commitment to fostering collective leadership
and democratic participation. Comfortable working with
culturally diverse populations; knowledge and awareness of Asian
and Pacific Islander community issues and infrastructure
Familiarity with financial management in non-profit settings.
Familiarity with programmatic and organizational assessment
Ability to supervise and develop a team-oriented environment;
Ability to give and receive feedback in a positive and productive
manner.
APEN is seeking qualified candidates who will commit to at least
three years to the organization. Some travel required.
The salary is negotiable, based on experience. A full benefits
package includes health, dental, vision, paid vacation and sick
leave.
