Friends: Housing and labor activists in Los Angeles scored a major
victory last week when -- after a two year grassroots campaign by
the Housing LA coalition -- Mayor James Hahn announced his
proposal for a $100 million/year municipal Housing Trust Fund to
add affordable units to address the city's severe housing crisis.
Later, we intend to write up an analysis of the campaign and some
of the lessons learned from its success. In the meantime, last
Friday's LA TIMES story on the announcement is below at:

Hahn Plans Trust Fund for Affordable Housing Investment: The
proposal, to be unveiled today, would set aside $100 million by
2003-04 fiscal year.
