POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION:       Assistant or Associate Professor, Tenure Track
         Service Learning and Outreach Scholarship

STARTING DATE:  Summer 2002 or as negotiated

LOCATION:       Department of Agricultural and Extension 
Education
         College of Agricultural Sciences
         The Pennsylvania State University
         University Park, PA 16802

RESPONSIBILITIES:       The position has a 75% research, 25% 
extension/outreach responsibility focusing on service learning and 
outreach 
scholarship for children and youth in communities.  The individual 
selected 
for the position will conduct a strong research program in the 
general area 
of promoting youth competencies and leadership skills.  Of 
particular 
interest is research contributing to an understanding of the 
processes and 
outcomes associated with effective service learning and outreach 
scholarship activities.  Research focusing on the promotion of civic 
participation, youth leadership, and the role of competence 
promotion in 
the prevention of risky youth outcomes is also relevant. Consistent 
with 
the mission of a major research and land grant university, a funded 
research program must be maintained and contribute to Penn 
State’s 
interdisciplinary initiatives via the Children, Youth, and Families 
Consortium.  Research and outreach activities must contribute to 
programming with Cooperative Extension and community 
institutions and 
organizations (Boys/Girls Clubs, Scouts, etc.).  The individual 
selected 
for the position will contribute to the Department’s strategic goals, 
both 
domestic and international, using contemporary approaches and 
technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a doctorate in an area 
of education, 
human development, psychology, sociology, political science, 
agricultural 
and extension education, or related disciplines.
