Colleagues:
I could use your help on something I'm writing and need to flesh out with
some additional data. I want to say something about how "connected" Los
Angeles folks are compared with their counterparts in other cities (the
so-called "bowling alone" thesis). Do you have (or know where I can find)
any data -- about Los Angeles (city, county, metro area) on its own, or in
comparison with other areas -- on any of the following indicators:
o voter turnout
o proportion of adults who read a daily newspaper
o proportion of adults who says they know their neighbors
o proportion of adults who are members of voluntary organizations
o proportion of adults in labor unions
o proportion of adults who attend church or synagogue
Anything data that might be used as indicators of "connectedness" would be
very helpful. Let me know. Thanks.
Peter
