FACULTY OPENINGS
The Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Houston is accepting
applications for three full-time tenure track faculty, Assistant Professor
rank, for Fall, 2001. Expertise in political social work, gerontology, and
children and families is especially desirable as is demonstrated research
and grant-writing potential. Members of under represented groups are
especially encouraged to apply.
QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in Social Work or related discipline; MSW
with two years post-MSW experience required to teach practice courses.
Social scientists from other disciplines are welcome to apply. The ability
to teach in several curriculum areas and a strong commitment to research,
publication and service are required.
The University of Houston main campus is located in the heart of the fourth
largest city in America with one of the largest medical centers within a
mile of campus. Houston is a multi-cultural city with a university populace
reflective of this diversity. The Graduate School of Social Work enrolls
approximately 360 students in its MSW and 30 students in its PhD program.
The MSW curriculum includes concentrations in children and families,
gerontology, political social work, mental health, and health care. The GSSW
is the only school of social work in the nation to offer a political social
work concentration. The GSSW also offers the only gerontology social work
concentration in Texas with an interdisciplinary focus on geriatrics and
gerontology. Our Child Welfare Education Project (CWEP) has grown to be the
second largest in Texas. In addition, the school houses The Office of
Community Projects (OCP), The Social Work Research Center, and the Center
for Organizational Research and Effectiveness (CORE). For more information
