Information Activist
Annual Salary: $30,000 plus benefits, full time position. People of color

The DataCenter is a 23-year-old nonprofit organization dedicated to
building a stronger progressive movement by providing strategic research
and information services to organizers, policy-makers and media advocates.
The DataCenter has a budget of $700,000, a paid staff of 14, and three
programs.
ImpactResearch is a team of information activists building a more
successful movement by providing on-call research and analysis, referral
and consultation to justice organizations, and by enhancing the movement's
research capacity through on-going collaborative projects and skills
training sessions.
JOB PROFILE The Information Activist will work closely with multiracial
Environmental Justice organizations to assess their information needs and
conduct research to help guide and implement campaign strategies.
Information Activists are members of DataCenter's ImpactResearch Team.
Major responsibilities include:
On-call research and analysis--from fact checking to deep research Research
strategy sessions Research trainings Information resource development
Outreach and relationship development with Environmental Justice
organizations Program evaluation and development
What we're looking for:
Two years experience in community, labor, environmental, or student
activism Research experience (e.g. journalism, union or campaign research,
targeted or community assets research) General computer and web research
experience is essential, including general office applications. Networked
environment using Microsoft Office applications Commitment to social
justice and progressive movement building Effective oral and written
communication skills Ability to work with diverse people and organizations
including: environmental justice advocates, communities of color and youth
Ability to manage multiple projects, working both independently and
collaboratively with activists and the ImpactResearch Team Capacity to
conduct trainings Commercial database research (e.g. LEXIS-NEXIS, Dialog,
Dow Jones News Retrieval) preferred
Current DataCenter staff have worked in the past as organizers,
journalists, teachers, lobbyists and librarians.
