Community // Tenant Organizer
Experience Required

     The Rogers Park Community Action Network (RPCAN) is a 20 year-old
grassroots community organization fighting for social justice through
community empowerment and leadership development.  RPCAN is a
dynamic, action-oriented leader of dozens of cutting edge organizing
campaigns on issues ranging from housing and tenants rights to school
reform to living wage jobs and sustainable economic development.  The
Board has opened a search for an experienced organizer to join our
small, dedicated staff as lead organizer on RPCAN housing and tenant
organizing campaigns as well as other issues.
        Resumes will be reviewed beginning December 15, after which
applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.

Duties:
* build dues-paying, grassroots memberhip base through doorknocking,
   organizing house meetings and one-on-one interviews;
* organize tenant councils and multi-building network;
* develop and implement Affordable Housing Campaign and/or
   other issue campaigns, as defined by membership;
* recruit and develop leadership among low income membership;
* prepare appropriate reports;
* help organize grassroots fundraisers;

Required qualifications:
* 3-5 years grassroots organizing experience, preferably with
  a direct action membership-base organization;
* Excellent Spanish and English communication skills;
* strong commitment to social and economic justice;
* demonstrated ability to handle all level facets of issue organizing
campaigns;
* ability to work with very diverse constituency;
* commitment to professional development;
* self-starter with healthy mix of fear, arrogance and humor.

Compensation:
*       $27-30,000, depending on qualifications
*       excellent comprehensive medical coverage
