[Cbrnet] Getting ready for ASA in Philadelphia

Hi, again,
Actually, SCRA doesn't happen at the same time as APA so it's not
moving us into the APA ocean. I realize it's hard to go to two
conferences per year (personally I am not going to ASA again if I can
avoid it and would prefer a CBR conference as my main home). I think
SCRA would benefit having a sociological influence moving them away
from being too psych defined. And sociologically defined CBR would
benefit from knowing more about the type of CBR that is motivated by
land grant university extension practices, and community psychology.
But I would not like to suggest that we get lost in the APA ocean--it
also has it's own blinders that need to be removed (e.g. renewed
emphasis on experimental designs and scientifically-based programming
to exclusion of more indigeneous, emergent forms of CBR.)
By the way, qualitative oriented CBR'ers may be very interested in this
other upcoming conference which seems to be taking on the concern
about "scientifically-based programming). Please check out this
website carefully (especially the bottom half).

For those of you who are thinking of pursuing careers as critical
qualitative researchers (which often overlaps with action research),
this conference may be a historic moment.

PS Also I'm not sure that generally Urbana Champaign qualifies as a
"beautiful place" (Last time SCRA was in Albaqueque, New Mexico.
