Dear Friends --
I'm pleased to adivse you that we now have available an Internet Correspondence List to facilitate communication: (1) between the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Community Services (OCS) and its Grantee network, and (2) among anti-poverty Community Action Agencies, non-profit Community Development Corporations, Housing Development Corporations, and similar organizations.
A cordial invitation to subscribe is likewise extended to personnel from local, state, and federal agencies concerned with community development -- as well as scholars and academicians in this field of study -- and community development organizations and agencies throughout the world.
As you probably know, an Internet Correspondence List is like a group of electronic "pen pals," organized around a particular topic -- in this case, domestic anti-poverty community action and community development programs. When a person follows the steps to subscribe, any messages he/she may send to the List go to all of its members, and he/she will receive copies of messages sent to the List by all other members.
COMMACTIONLIST will provide participating personnel and organizations with an excellent means of obtaining the information and assistance necessary to begin utilizing the full array of resources available via the Information Superhighway. Please note that subscription to this service is completely FREE, costing nothing more than you already pay for normal Internet access time and any associated telephone charges.
It must be recognized, however, that not everyone finds Internet Correspondence Lists to their liking because of the volume of message traffic that's occasionally generated. Individuals encountering such frustration need only to delete the unwanted material or unsubscribe from the List(s) in question.
Below you'll see an invitational message which provides detailed instructions for anyone who desires to subscribe to the COMMACTIONLIST Correspondence List. If you have questions or comments, please let me know.
Thanks for your time and attention.

You're invited to subscribe and participate in an Internet Correspondence List (COMMACTIONLIST), established to facilitate communication and interchange among anti-poverty Community Action Agencies, non-profit Community Development Corporations, Housing Development Corporations, and other such organizations across America.
COMMACTIONLIST has been established on an experimental basis to serve as a forum where issues pertaining to anti-poverty community action organizations and programs can be addressed, and questions can be posted and answered.
Its our expectation that subscribers will observe normal standards of civility and mature judgment, and that participation will be conducted on the basis of mutual professional respect. The Internet Golden Rule will be applicable in all cases, namely: "E-Mail unto others as you would have them E-Mail unto you."
To subscribe, address an E-Mail message to:
listproc@listserv.acf.dhhs.gov
Leave the message's SUBJECT line blank (NOTE -- if your system REQUIRES an entry on the SUBJECT line, use a "filler entry" such as: xxxxx), and in the body of the message write:
subscribe commactionlist Your First & Last Name
Please note: You'll receive an automatic response containing information which should be filed to your computer's hard disk for any future reference which may be necessary. Also, take advantage of the HELP option which the listproc provides for further information regarding operation of the List, including relevant commands, etc.
In accordance with normal Internet Correspondence List practice, please be sure that all "administrative commands" such as subscribe/unsubscribe, etc., are addressed to the listproc address, and *NOT* to the address provided for posting messages to the COMMACTIONLIST's entire membership.
Subscribers may post messages to the COMMACTIONLIST by addressing them to:
commactionlist@listserv.acf.dhhs.gov
Should you wish to unsubscribe, address an E-Mail message to:
listproc@listserv.acf.dhhs.gov
Leave the SUBJECT line blank (as noted above, if your system REQUIRES an entry in the SUBJECT line, use a "filler entry" such as: xxxxx), and in the body of the message write:
unsubscribe commactionlist
As occasionally happens with any activity involving computers and the Internet, "bugs and glitches" may arise from time to time. We'll greatly appreciate patience and good humor on the part of subscribers in helping us identify any problems encountered so we can take action to get them corrected.
Thanks for your interest in COMMACTIONLIST !! If you decide to subscribe, we'll do our best to make it a pleasant and worthwhile experience !!
Best wishes, Dave Matthews Internet address: dmatthews@acf.dhhs.gov
P.S. Please feel free to forward this message to Community Action Agencies and related organizations in your communication network which might not otherwise receive it.
