Dear Colleagues interested in Community Organizing:

I am pleased to invite you to attend the inaugural meeting of the International Leadership Association (ILA), to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, on 22-24 October 1999.

The ILA serves as a global network for all those with a professional interest in leadership. The ILA constituency includes, among others, leaders, managers, scholars, educators, community activists, trainers, and institutions. The ILA cuts across disciplines, sectors (public, private, not-for-profit), nations, and cultures.

Confirmed keynote speakers at the conference include:

1. Congressman John Lewis (D - Georgia), longtime grassroots activist and pivotal figure in the American Civil Rights movement.

2. Maj. Gen. Perry M. Smith (USAF - Ret.), President of Visionary Leadership, Inc., NBC News analyst, and author recently of _Rules & Tools for Leaders_ (Avery, 1998).

3. Robert H. Rosen, Ph.D., President of Healthy Companies, Inc., internationally-known business and leadership consultant and author of _Leading People_ (Penguin, 1996).

4. Jean Lipman-Blumen, Ph.D., Thorton F. Bradshaw Professor of Public Policy at the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University, former Assistant Director of the National Institute of Education and author of _The Connective Edge: Leading in an Interdependent World_ (Jossey-Bass, 1996).

In addition to the keynoters, the ILA plans between 40-50 workshops, roundtable discussions, and paper presentations on topics ranging from Community Leadership to Leadership Development to Leadership Education to Leadership Scholarship to Multicultural Leadership.
