Dear Friends of the Microenterprise Development Institute that will be held at New Hampshire College from June 6th - 26th, 1999

This is MDI Bulletin # 2 updating you as promised. Some of you are completely registered, paid and confirmed, others are registered and trying to process invoices, and others are still trying to decide on their courses and haven’t finalized their registrations yet. I urge you to hurry up as time is flying by. In order to assist all of you I am forwarding small bits and pieces of info in different categories that may be helpful as you make your summer plans.

Q. Is registration still going on? Yes. (A) The suggested deadline for people who wanted to make sure that the courses they selected would still be open was March 15th. The actual deadline is April 30th. We have been registering people daily and continue to do so. Q. How many people have registered? (A) 48 Participants have registered. Some of the countries they are coming in from are: Africa, Nepal, Cambodia, Guatemala, India, and Macedonia to name but a few. Most are coming for all three weeks, a small number are coming for one or two weeks. It is all very exciting.

Q. Are any of the courses closed at this time? Although two courses are filled up, we are still taking registrations for them and all others. You may get bumped from your first choice if you have not paid, but we are trying very hard to honor your choices. If we have to bump you, you will be notified. (Don't worry if you have pre-paid, you will not get bumped.)

Q. What are the different ways that I can make payment? (A) You can: 1. Pay on-line when you register with your credit card at:

http://merlin.nhc.edu/ced/micro/page1.htm 2. Register on-line and indicate you are sending a check at the end of your registration form. (US$) Then mail it. 3. Wire Funds to: Fleet Bank ABA#011400495 NH College Acct: 9399150238 (Always e-mail me when you wire funds.)

Q. What is the telephone number for making reservation for “off-campus housing?” (A) Off campus housing is at the Ramada Inn (603)669-2660 ten minutes away from the NH College Campus. They have a van that will pick you up at the Manchester, NH Airport when you arrive, call them. They will also bring you here each day of class and take you back to the Ramada after class. They have been wonderful to all of our students over the years and I am sure you will be very comfortable. Make sure to say “Microenterprise Institute & CED” to get the special rates of $50/night. If you do not register and have them hold your room you will not have a place to stay while you are here in New Hampshire.

Q. What is the weather like in New Hampshire in June? (A) Beautiful. It is warm (55-80 degrees) depending on the day and usually very pleasant. Bring casual clothes, a warm sweatshirt or sweater, and a semi-light jacket for cooler evenings.

Q. What are the latest happenings in the planning for the Institute this summer? (A) There has been a Great deal of interest from the USA Micro Practitioners in the field. We are planning to offer some Friday Speaker Series to address this interest. Some of the topics will be -The U.S. Lending Experience - Public Policy Issues & Microenterprise - An Introduction to AEO and it’s projects.
